You’re following your dream, creating opportunity for your family and adding value to our economy. AI is a general purpose technology that can - and will - transform every aspect of the economy. Headlines too often focus on the global race for AI superintelligence. But the real race is the race for everyday AI, spreading this technology throughout our economy and society. When it comes to AI, adoption is all. It will be those countries that adopt, adopt, adopt who will be the biggest winners. Britain won’t succeed unless we get SMEs to adopt, too. SMEs are half the economy, and the UK can only be as productive as they all are. It’s all too tempting to say “let’s wait and see how all this plays out”. But do that and you risk not having a business in a few years’ time. And speaking with small business owners in Birmingham, it’s clear that will take leadership. Their stories showed that AI starts with the CEO. You don’t need to be a coding expert, but you do need to be informed and be open to new ideas. One of my big takeaways is that AI adoption is an iterative process. You start, you learn, you adjust. Don’t be afraid of that - we learn by doing. But if you lead, if you seize this opportunity, you’ll find that there has never been a better time to be a small business. AI can be your superpower, enabling you to achieve things that you never had the manpower or theresources to do before. I’m convinced that AI will lead to a renaissance of small business across our country. We mustn’t let this opportunity slip away.".
